    Description

    LCD 4

    Compact, wearable chemical threat detector

The Smiths Detection LCD 4 is a rugged, body-worn chemical detector that continuously monitors for chemical warfare agents (CWAs) and toxic industrial chemicals (TICs) in the gas and vapour phase. Using non-radioactive Ion Mobility Spectrometry (IMS) technology, it provides advanced warning of threats at or below IDLH levels, helping protect operators in high-risk environments.

LCD 4 automatically identifies the agent type or class and provides information on concentration and dosage, allowing users to quickly understand the severity of exposure. Flexible mounting options let it be worn on a belt, harness or shoulder strap, or used handheld, so responders can maintain full mobility while staying protected.

With long battery life from standard AA cells, simple one-button operation and no routine calibration, the LCD 4 keeps the logistics burden low. Integrated mission data logging, RS232 connectivity and optional extensions such as wireless communication and the XID trace-detection adapter expand its role from personal detector to a networked, multi-threat detection platform.

    Features

    • Compact, wearable detector for CWAs and TICs.

    • Advanced, non-radioactive IMS technology.

    • Alarms at or below IDLH levels for gas and vapour threats.

    • Up to 75 hours of continuous use from AA batteries.

    • Rugged design tested to military environmental standards.

    Continuous Personal Protection

Designed to be worn on the body for 24/7 protection without impairing the user’s primary mission.

    • Clips to belts, harnesses or shoulder straps for hands-free operation.

    • Bright visual and audible alarms with clear LCD readout.

    • Functions as a screening and survey device when used handheld.

    Proven IMS Detection

Uses Smiths Detection’s non-radioactive IMS technology for fast, accurate identification.

    • Detects nerve, blood, blister and choking agents plus a library of TICs.

    • Determines agent class, concentration and dosage for threat assessment.

    • Records up to 72 hours of mission data for post-event review.

    Mission-Ready & Upgradeable

Built to survive harsh environments and evolve with new threats.

    • Meets MIL-STD-810 and MIL-STD-461 environmental and EMC requirements.

    • New extensions add wireless connectivity and XID trace detection capability.

    • Simple operation with minimal routine maintenance and no calibration burden.
