Description
RadEye SPRD
Thermo Scientific
The Thermo Scientific RadEye SPRD is a compact and affordable spectroscopic personal radiation detector (SPRD) designed to detect, localize, and identify radioactive sources—without the complexity or bulk of traditional radiation detection equipment. Combining gamma radiation detection with nuclide identification, it brings advanced radiation analysis to front-line personnel in a pager-sized package.
Ideal for law enforcement, border security, emergency response, and hazmat teams, the RadEye SPRD balances performance and practicality with its lightweight form factor, long battery life, and intuitive interface. Users can easily wear it on a belt or carry it in a pocket during routine patrols or large-scale events.
A key feature is its Natural Background Rejection (NBR) technology, which allows users to differentiate between naturally occurring radiation and potential man-made threats. This patented system enhances sensitivity and selectivity during “search and find” operations, minimizing false alarms and improving reaction time. When a significant radiation source is detected, the device can be quickly switched to nuclide identification mode for real-time analysis. It identifies isotopes commonly associated with nuclear weapons, improvised nuclear devices (INDs), or radiological dispersal devices (RDDs)—making it a powerful tool in both routine and high-threat environments.
