  • Rigaku / Handheld 1064 nm Raman Analyzer

    Rigaku CQL Gen-ID

Optimum in-field analysis of general chemical threats

The CQL Gen-ID provides advanced analytical chemical identification of the more common threats found by first responders or at the border, and in clandestine and crime laboratories. It identifies unknown solids, liquids, powders, pastes and gels against a comprehensive library of narcotics, explosives, household chemicals, precursors, and more. Rigaku positions it as a cost-effective solution for departments looking for targeted chemical threat analysis.

The CQL Gen-ID handheld 1064 nm Raman analyzer can nondestructively identify unknown solids, liquids, powders, pastes, or gels through translucent packaging. In Rigaku's words, this keeps the user safe from exposure to a harmful chemical.

Its 1064 nm laser excitation reduces the fluorescence interference that often occurs when scanning impure or dirty mixtures, a common issue for older generation Raman devices.

    How it works

From packaged sample to a named substance

Handheld Raman identification in four steps: focus through the packaging, excite the sample with the 1064 nm laser, match the spectrum against the on-board library, then record the result.

Schematic: the Gen-ID's 1064 nm laser passes through translucent packaging to the sample, and the returned spectrum from 200 to 2500 cm-1 is matched against a 5100+ item library to give a result of up to five components CQL GEN-ID Nose cone 0mm -5.5mm 1064 nm / 490mW Raman signal back Translucent packaging Unknown sample 200 2500 cm-1 Spectrum · TE Cooled InGaAs - 512 pixel 5100+ items Spectral library Result: up to 5 components

Good to know: the Gen-ID's included libraries do not include chemical warfare agent (CWA) or toxic industrial chemical (TIC) libraries, and it runs two scan modes rather than the three on the CQL Max-ID. If chemical warfare agents are part of your mission, compare the CQL Max-ID.

    FAQ

    Common questions

What can the CQL Gen-ID identify?
Unknown solids, liquids, powders, pastes, or gels, against a comprehensive library of narcotics, explosives, household chemicals, precursors, and more. The spectral library holds 5100+ items across fourteen included libraries: Biomolecule (amino acids), Cutting Agent, Explosive, Explosive Precursor, General Chemical, General Precursor, Household Chemical, Industrial Chemical 1, Narcotic, Narcotic Precursor, Pharmaceutical, Polymer, Solvent and Steroid.
Does the Gen-ID identify chemical warfare agents?
The Gen-ID's included libraries do not include chemical warfare agent (CWA) or toxic industrial chemical (TIC) libraries, and its two scan modes are Identification and ThreatAlert™. If CWA identification is a requirement, compare the CQL Max-ID, which includes CWA, CWA Precursor and TIC/TIM libraries.
    Can it scan through packaging?
Yes. Rigaku says the Gen-ID can nondestructively identify samples through translucent packaging, which keeps the user safe from exposure to a harmful chemical. The adjustable nose cone (0mm -5.5mm) allows scanning through different thickness and types of packaging.
    Does it detect trace amounts?
Handheld Raman systems are not trace identification tools. The Gen-ID can identify bulk and trace levels with optional QuickDetect™, a trace colorimetric detection option for narcotics and explosives.
    Why does 1064 nm matter?
1064 nm Raman laser excitation means reduced fluorescence interference, which often occurs when scanning impure or dirty mixtures and is a common issue for older generation Raman devices. Rigaku adds: "Users can expect a result every scan, in just minutes."
    What support comes with it?
24/7/365 Reachback Support and software and library updates are included under active support.
    Is the CQL Gen-ID export-controlled?
CQL Gen-ID is not ITAR-restricted, though a U.S. Department of Commerce export license may be required for some countries. All products manufactured by Rigaku Analytical Devices are made in the USA.
Does it work with fleet management software?
Yes. It is compatible with Rigaku's CommandSuite™ Fleet Management software, which is included on units #1 - #2 and available for purchase for higher quantities.
