    Symetrica VeriFinder S100 vs S200 vs S300

The S100 for long shifts on one battery, the S200 for connected reporting and reach-back, the S300 backpack for hands-free search, and the Responder for a compact, holsterable handheld.

All four VeriFinder instruments are built on Symetrica's Discovery Technology® and pair a gamma detector with 3He-free neutron detection (standard on the S100, optional on the S200 and S300, and listed for the Responder). They differ in how they are carried, how they connect, how long they run and which crystal they use. Here are the published figures side by side.

    FAQ

    Comparing VeriFinders

The questions buyers ask most when choosing between the S100, S200, S300 and Responder.

    Which VeriFinder models detect neutrons?
All four can. The S100 carries a Li6F/ZnS neutron detector in its standard configuration, S100-1N2 (Part # 400-0160). On the S200 the 6Li:ZnS neutron detector is optional, and the S300 backpack takes modular gamma and/or neutron detectors, with the neutron blade system optional. The Responder lists a 1.5 x 1.5 in NaI crystal and a 6Li:ZnS neutron detector in its configuration. Every neutron detector in the family is 3He-free. Tell us whether you need gamma only or gamma and neutron when you request a quote.
Which one has the narrowest gamma peaks?
By the published effective resolution at 662 keV 137Cs, the S300's 3x3 in NaI crystal is quoted at 1.6% FWHM and the S200 with a LaBr crystal at 1.7%. The S100, the S200 with a NaI crystal, and the Responder are each quoted at 2.2%. Raw resolution ranges from 3% (S200, LaBr3) to 8% (NaI handhelds). See the resolution chart.
How large is each isotope library?
Symetrica states the S100 identifies over 50 nuclides including masked and shielded cases. The S200 library exceeds ANSI N42.34 with over 50 radioisotopes and source types. The S300 and the Responder list 47 isotopes in a customizable library.
Do any of them need annual calibration?
No. All four run automatic and continuous end-to-end digital calibration and health monitoring, with no annual calibration required. The S200, S300 and Responder list a 5-year calibration and service interval; Symetrica states the S100 offers up to 10 years of service without annual calibration.
Which one runs longest on a charge?
The S300 backpack lists >16 hrs with dual batteries (>8 hrs on a single battery). Among the handhelds, the S100 lists a run time of 14 hrs on an integrated Li-ion battery, and the S200 and Responder each list >8 hrs; the S200 ships with 1 spare battery as standard, and the Responder has an external AA battery caddy.
Which one suits reporting results from the field?
It depends on how you report. The S200 has 4G, Wi-Fi and USB as standard with in-built GPS, emails instant and automatically generated reports, and supports reach-back monitoring and control of in-the-field devices. The S300 emails instant and automatically generated PDF reports, uses an Android smartphone as its interface and has GPS with GLONASS. Both offer real-time dose mapping and unit tracking at reach-back as an option. The S100 lists Bluetooth, WiFi and USB-C plus a charging & data offload dock, and the Responder lists USB-C and Bluetooth with GPS with GLONASS.
How do the S100 and the Responder differ?
Both are compact handhelds pairing a NaI gamma detector with a 3He-free neutron detector, at 2.2% effective resolution. Their listed figures differ: the S100 is 1.3 kg (2.9 lbs) with a 14 hrs run time, IP67 and Bluetooth, WiFi and USB-C; the Responder is 2.3 lb (1.0 kg), holsterable, with >8 hrs battery life, IP65, USB-C and Bluetooth, and GPS with GLONASS.
    How rugged are they?
All four list an operating temperature of -20 to 50 °C (-4 to 122 °F). Ingress protection is IP67 (IEC 60529) on the S100, IP65 on the S200 and Responder, and IP54 on the S300 with IP67 as an option. Symetrica lists fully functional and accurate operation through temperature shock for the family.
Can the S300 detectors be used without the backpack?
Yes. The modular gamma and/or neutron detectors can be easily removed from the backpack and mounted for a wide range of alternative applications, including static monitoring or mobile operations. See the VeriFinder S300 page for details.
