    Discovery Technology®

Narrower peaks from the same crystal

Symetrica states that its advanced algorithms improve the effective resolution of the gamma detection system, for reliable low-level detection and fast, simultaneous identification of multiple and masked isotopes in challenging real-world environments.

Discovery Technology® is a combination of Symetrica's hardware and patented algorithms. Symetrica reports it is deployed in thousands of systems globally, from handheld RIIDs to fixed Radiation Portal Monitors (RPM), and is the current technology of choice (through competitive evaluation) of multiple US and international government agencies. Per Symetrica, on-board spectral enhancement backed by its analysis of real-world data results in:

    • High true-positive and low false-positive isotope identification.
    • Classification and identification of NORMs and non-NORMs, which Symetrica calls world-beating.
    • Identification of masked isotopes that cannot normally be resolved when analyzing raw spectra.
    • Fully functional and accurate operation through temperature shock.
    • Switch on and operate in high radiation fields.
    • Reliable and scalable 3He-free neutron detection even in high gamma exposed fields (optional neutron detector).
    • Predictive maintenance and no annual calibration required.

    FAQ

    Common questions

Does the VeriFinder S200 need annual calibration?
No. Symetrica states no annual calibration required and lists automatic and continuous end-to-end digital calibration, stabilization and health monitoring. There is also a 5-year calibration and service interval, so plan for service at that point. The FarrWest Repair Depot coordinates calibration and repair that falls outside our in-house scope directly with the manufacturer.
Which detector, NaI or LaBr, do I need?
The S200 is available with a 1.5 x 1.5 in (38.1 x 38.1 mm) crystal, NaI or LaBr. At 662 keV 137Cs, LaBr3 is 3% FWHM raw and 1.7% effective, and NaI 8% FWHM raw and 2.2% effective. Tell us which you need when you request a quote.
    Does it detect neutrons?
    With the optional neutron detector, yes. It is 3He-free, using 6Li:ZnS technology: 252Cf 20,000 n/s @ 0.6 m/s @ 0.25 m (2 ft/s @ 10 in), neutron range 0.025 eV to 15 MeV. Ask us to confirm it for your configuration.
How quickly is it ready and how fast does it identify?
Cold start time is 45 s from switch-on to detection, with instant response to sources (0.2 s). Sampling time is user settable from 30 s to 60 mins, and a user can acquire IDs under 20 seconds manually for sources at 0.5 μSv/h.
    How does it share results?
Standard: PDF reports (ANSI N42.42 compliant), 4G, Wi-Fi and USB, with GPS, and instant and automatically generated reports by email. Optional: Bluetooth, satellite phone and Ethernet, plus reach-back features such as real-time dose mapping and unit tracking and a collated fleet event list. On a PC it uses a web browser interface with a fully featured event viewer and a bulk event offload tool.
    What are the power options?
The S200 runs on a COTS replaceable, rechargeable Li-ion battery, with 1 spare battery provided as standard. Power options are 110-240 V mains, a 12-24 V car adaptor and an external fast battery charger, with an optional AA battery adapter.
What standards and ratings does it meet?
Identification exceeds ANSI N42.34, the library exceeds ANSI N42.34 with over 50 radioisotopes and source types, data is ANSI N42.42 compliant, and ingress protection is IP65 as per IEC 60529. Operating temperature is -20°C to 50°C (-4°F to 122°F).
