Rugged handheld Raman analyzer that identifies unknown solids and liquids in seconds, scanning right through sealed glass or plastic containers. RMX adds a fixed probe, vial mode and robot mounting.
The FirstDefender is a handheld Raman spectrometer built for hazmat teams, bomb squads, law enforcement and military units who need to know what an unknown solid or liquid is before they act. Point the instrument at a sample, including one still sealed inside a translucent glass or plastic container, and it returns a color-coded identification in seconds without consuming or contaminating the sample.
The onboard library covers explosives, toxic industrial chemicals, chemical warfare agents, narcotics, precursors and white powders. Automatic mixture analysis can pick out up to four components in a single sample, and integrated NIOSH and CAMEO hazard data puts response guidance on screen at the scene. Large buttons and a large display are designed for operators in gloves and full protective gear, and the menu-driven interface keeps training time short.
Two models are available. The FirstDefender RM is the compact point-and-shoot unit with an integrated vial holder. The FirstDefender RMX adds a fixed probe, a dedicated vial mode and a remote mode that lets the analyzer be mounted on select tactical robots through a robot manufacturer's integration kit, keeping the operator out of the hazard zone. Both are tested to MIL-STD-810G and IP67 and need no scheduled maintenance or calibration.
