Rugged handheld FTIR analyzer with a diamond ATR anvil that identifies unknown solids, liquids and explosives in seconds, including complex mixtures, right in the hazard zone.
The TruDefender FTX brings FTIR spectroscopy into the hazard zone. Hazmat technicians, bomb technicians and law enforcement teams place a small amount of an unknown solid or liquid on the diamond ATR sampling surface, set the anvil pressure, and get a clear identification in seconds, including onboard analysis of mixtures with up to four components.
The anvil sampling head rotates for easy sample placement and cleaning, and a variable pressure knob lets the operator decide how much force to apply to a sensitive substance. A liquid containment moat helps keep spills on the instrument, and a reversible sampling accessory caps volatile liquids and funnels powders and prills onto the crystal. Smooth, contoured housing with no crevices or exposed friction points makes decontamination simple; the unit can be submerged in decon solution without disassembly.
At 3.12 lb, the TruDefender FTX is a compact, military-rugged FTIR tested to MIL-STD-810G and IP67. It needs no scheduled maintenance, calibration, warm-up or mirror alignment, runs on a removable lithium-ion battery or 123A cells, and exports standard SPC spectra, text files and JPEG reports for documentation and reachback. FTIR pairs well with a Raman analyzer such as the FirstDefender for confirmatory identification.
