    Which one fits

    Start with the job

Four questions settle most of it. The sensor mix comes next, and we can help with that.

    1. Do you need gamma radiation or VOCs in parts per billion?

MultiRAE Pro. Its sensor list includes a gamma radiation sensor (0 to 20,000 μRem/h dose rate) and a ppb PID (0 to 2,000 ppm, 10 ppb resolution), and it detects gamma radiation and toxic industrial chemicals (TICs/TIMs) simultaneously.

    2. Do you want a diffusion monitor with no pump?

MultiRAE Lite, diffusion version (PGM-6208D). 26.8 oz (760 g), IP-67, and the extended-range EtO-C, hydrogen (H2) and extended-range H2S sensors are diffusion only. A PID and NDIR combustible sensors need the pumped version.

    3. Do your VOC readings go above 1,000 ppm?

MultiRAE or MultiRAE Pro. Both list the 10.6 eV extended-range PID: 0 to 5,000 ppm at 0.1 ppm resolution. The MultiRAE Lite PID reads 0 to 1,000 ppm at 1 ppm resolution, on the pumped version.

    4. One to six gases for personal protection and leak detection?

MultiRAE Lite, pumped version (PGM-6208). Honeywell positions the Lite for personal protection and leak detection; the pumped version takes the PID and NDIR combustible sensors and works with AutoRAE 2.

    FAQ

    Questions buyers ask when comparing

What is the main difference between the MultiRAE, MultiRAE Lite and MultiRAE Pro?
Sampling, PID range and radiation. The MultiRAE (PGM-6228) is pumped, with a 10.6 eV PID that reads 0 to 5,000 ppm at 0.1 ppm resolution. The MultiRAE Lite comes in pumped (PGM-6208) and diffusion (PGM-6208D) versions, and its PID reads 0 to 1,000 ppm at 1 ppm resolution on the pumped version. The MultiRAE Pro (PGM-6248) is pumped and adds gamma radiation and a ppb PID to its sensor list. All three share the same display, keypad, five-way alarm notification, datalogging and CSA rating.
    Which one detects gamma radiation?
The MultiRAE Pro. It simultaneously detects gamma radiation and toxic industrial chemicals (TICs/TIMs). Its gamma sensor is a 1cc CsI (Tl) scintillator with photodiode reading 0 to 20,000 μRem/h (dose rate). Gamma radiation is not on the MultiRAE or MultiRAE Lite sensor lists.
How do the PID (VOC) sensors compare?
MultiRAE: VOC 10.6 eV (ext. range), 0 to 5,000 ppm, 0.1 ppm resolution. MultiRAE Lite: VOC 10.6 eV, 0 to 1,000 ppm, 1 ppm resolution, pumped version only. MultiRAE Pro: VOC 10.6 eV (ext. range), 0 to 5,000 ppm, 0.1 ppm resolution, and VOC 10.6 eV (ppb), 0 to 2,000 ppm, 10 ppb resolution. On every model the PID sensor requires a pumped configuration.
How many gases can each one show at once?
The MultiRAE is a six-gas monitor, the MultiRAE Lite is a one-to-six-gas monitor, and the MultiRAE Pro monitors up to 6 threat types at a time, including radiation. On all three, six readings take the CO + H2S combination sensor, which reads both CO and H2S from a single sensor position.
Is there a diffusion version without a pump?
Yes, the MultiRAE Lite diffusion version (PGM-6208D). Instead of a single gas inlet at the top, it has five inlets on the back side, as well as an extra alarm buzzer and LEDs. It weighs 26.8 oz (760 g) and is rated IP-67. The MultiRAE and MultiRAE Pro have a built-in pump.
    Is wireless included?
Wireless is optional on all three: wireless and non-wireless configurations are available. Wireless units transmit data and alarm status via a built-in RF modem to a ProRAE Guardian Real-Time Wireless Safety System or EchoView Host-based Closed-Loop System. Additional equipment and/or software licenses may be required to enable remote wireless monitoring and alarm transmission.
Do all three work with AutoRAE 2?
The MultiRAE and MultiRAE Pro offer fully automatic bump testing and calibration with AutoRAE 2, or manual calibration. On the MultiRAE Lite, AutoRAE 2 supports the pumped version only.
How long do the batteries last?
For non-wireless monitors: the MultiRAE and MultiRAE Pro run ~12 hours on the rechargeable Li-ion pack, ~18 hours on the extended duration pack and ~6 hours on the alkaline adapter with 4 x AA batteries. The MultiRAE Lite runs ~12 / 18 hours (pumped / diffusion) on the rechargeable pack, ~18 / 28 hours on the extended duration pack and ~6 / 8 hours on the alkaline adapter.
    Who services and calibrates them?
FarrWest is a Honeywell Authorized Service Provider for BW and RAE Systems gas detection, and our Repair Depot handles calibration and repair. Coverage depends on the model and agreement, so see Honeywell warranty service or call 210.566.1857 to confirm.
