    mPower MP050 LASD

LASD CH4 laser methane detector · model MP050

A compact remote methane detector in a light-weight alloy housing. Aim it down a line up to 50 m (164 ft) away and it selectively measures the methane along that line, so you can check for leaks, monitor methane emissions and protect personnel, assets and the environment from a distance.

    How it reads

One line, up to 50 m out

The LASD CH4 uses tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy (TDLAS). A tunable diode laser is the light source and a photo detector measures the reflected light intensity. Methane absorbs the laser light at 1.65 µm, and that absorption is free of interference from atmospheric gases including CO2 and water vapor. Readings are given in ppm·m.

    • Green pointer. Built-in and visible, it marks the measurement line up to 50 meters.
    • Methane laser. Invisible near-infrared light, absorbed by methane at 1.65 µm.
    • Reflected light. Returns to the photo detector, which measures its intensity.

    Aim

Put the green pointer on the area you want to check. The measurement runs along that line, up to 164 feet (50 meters) away.

    02

    Absorb

Methane in the path absorbs the laser light at 1.65 µm. CO2 and water vapor do not interfere at that wavelength, which gives excellent selectivity for methane. The detector also features low false alarms.

    03

    Read

    The reading follows in 0.05 sec, auto-ranging from 0 to 99,999 ppm·m with 1 ppm·m resolution and ±10% accuracy.

Eye safety. The methane laser is invisible near-infrared light and the green pointer is visible. Do not point the detector at people or look directly into it.

    Display & keys

    Everything on one screen

A dot-matrix LCD shows the alarm, maximum and measured values in ppm·m in real time, with a bar chart of the reflected light intensity above them. Six keys run it.

    FAQ

    Common questions

How far away can the MP050 measure methane?
Up to 164 feet (50 meters). A built-in green pointer shows the measurement line so you can see the line you are checking.
Will carbon dioxide or water vapor affect the reading?
The detector reads methane by its absorption of laser light at 1.65 µm, which is free of interference from atmospheric gases including CO2 and water vapor. That gives excellent selectivity for methane.
What range, resolution and response time does it have?
Auto-ranging from 0 to 99,999 ppm·m with 1 ppm·m resolution, ±10% accuracy and a 0.05 sec response time. It has two measurement modes: High Sensitivity and Concentration.
How long does the battery last, and how do I charge it?
The rechargeable lithium-ion battery gives 8 hours of typical continuous run time after a full charge, with a 4-bar status icon on screen. It charges from a laptop or other USB port with the included USB charger.
    Is the laser visible?
The methane laser is invisible near-infrared light; the green pointer is visible. Do not point the detector at people or look directly into it.
    What comes in the box?
The LASD detector, a USB charger and a wrist strap, in a hard carry case.
What conditions is it rated for, and what is the warranty?
    IP-54, -4° to 122°F (-20° to 50°C) and 0% to 98% relative humidity (non-condensing). The warranty is 1 year.
